Dr. Elise Labbé is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of South Alabama (USA) where she taught for 32 years. Prior to coming to USA, Dr. Labbé taught first at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and then at the University of Miami. Dr. Labbé received her B.A. in Psychology from Loyola University in New Orleans; M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 1980 and Ph.D. in clinical psychology 1983 from Louisiana State University.
Dr. Labbé has published over 60 professional, peer-reviewed publications in clinical and health psychology, and has presented at over 90 local, regional, national and international conferences. She received over $350,000 in research grant awards. She has developed both clinical and research programs on mindfulness and health. Dr. Labbé explores the interplay between mind, body, and spirituality in the work that she does.
In 1984 Dr. Labbé received the Orurobors Award ‑ Who’s Who in Biobehavioral Sciences for meritorious research furthering understanding of psychophysiological processes. Dr. Labbé has earned several professional awards including the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar of the Year Award in 1996, Outstanding Professional Achievement Award, Mobile Association of Psychologists in 1998, College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Service Award in 2001, College of Arts and Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. Dr. Labbé has been Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Sport Behavior since 1998. She is on the editorial board of Journal of Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback and is invited to review for a number of clinical and health psychology journals each year.
Dr. Labbé taught undergraduate health psychology; and master’s and doctoral level students in clinical psychology courses such as evidence-based clinical and counseling psychology practices; applied health psychology and clinical practicum. She was the Director of Clinical Training for the Combined Clinical and Counseling Psychology Doctoral program, an American Psychological Association accredited program. Dr. Labbé was the Chairman of the Psychology Department before she retired in 2018.
